Business and Property Juniors: BPJ

"the set's juniors are especially noted for their incredible efficiency." - Chambers UK

Our Lineage

The BPJ is the evolution of our highly successful Junior Commercial Team (JCT).

Since its inception and launch in March 2012, the JCT has been forging relationships with junior solicitors, trainees and paralegals.

This has been achieved not only through the quality of the bespoke seminars, publications and social events that we have run, but also through the talent and approachability of our members and the significance placed on the relationships this built. Indeed some of those who were there at its beginning are now partners in their respective firms, but still valued clients and friends.

A lot has changed over those years, with the concept of our JCT often imitated, but never duplicated.

So what is the BPJ?

The BPJ is an association of those within Chambers in their first five years of tenancy who practise in the fields governed by the Business and Property Court: hence the BPJ name.

Its aim is to build on the progress made by the JCT, providing a platform to promote the expertise of those junior members of St Philips whose training and practice in a variety of disciplines provides a real opportunity for insight and assistance. BPJ members have differing emphases in their work (from property to commercial, insolvency to probate) but pool their expertise and experience concerning a wide array of issues, including of a procedural nature or in certain specialist arenas (e.g. residential possession, winding-ups, bankruptcies, etc.) which practice at the junior end often entails.

As a group of enthusiastic and talented people we are also keen to meet fellow professionals working in the law and its related disciplines. As with the JCT before us, building long-term relationships in the local legal community is our goal, particularly with those who are in the early part of their careers such as paralegals, trainees and newly qualified solicitors.

Further details of our members’ individual experience can be found via their profile links below.

What we do?

The BPJ puts on an annual programme of events involving seminars and training, mock hearings and professional insights, as well as social events in a more relaxed setting. We will also be working [looking to work] closely with local associations such as the Birmingham Solicitors’ Group, Birmingham Trainee Solicitors’ Society, and the regional Junior Lawyers Division groups.
