James read Law at University College, Oxford, where he was tutored in Land Law by Lord Hoffmann, and went on to serve pupillage in Lincoln’s Inn. He has practised in Birmingham since 1975 in Property matters including commercial Landlord and Tenant, trusts of land and contractual issues with acquisition and sale. He is particularly concerned day-to-day with Real Property and Succession.

      • James has recently completed the litigation in Khaira v Shergill [2012] EWCA Civ 983; [2012] W.T.L.R. 1795 (subject to the unsuccessful Claimants’ application to appeal to the Supreme Court)which saw the successful resistance of the Trustees of Sikh Gurdwaras in the Midlands to the attempt by a religious leader abroad to control their land and trusts.
