Professional Liability Profile

Ali's fast-developing practice in this area mainly involves claims against solicitors, surveyors and IFAs, though has also involved allegations of substandard agronomy services and indemnity issues arising from property fires.

As well as running matters to trial, he is regularly instructed to provide early strategic advice, mindful of the commercial imperatives in insurance-backed work. Ali's sensible and common sense approach has persuaded clients to instruct him at numerous successful mediations and round-table meetings, and Ali intends to augment this area of his practice by qualifying as a mediator in September 2016.

Examples of his recent case-load are: led by Ed Pepperall QC in a large-scale action arising from a defective share sale; defended solicitors from allegations arising from property transactions, including alleged breaches of the Etridge guidance; acting for a claimant against solicitors who negligently handled his litigation; defending an IFA from allegations of inappropriately risky investment advice; acting for solicitors claiming contributions from another firm in respect of their own liability for breach of trust; advising clients on a claim against surveyors for losses arising from negligent property valuations.
