Commercial & Chancery Litigation Profile

Gavin completed his mainly commercial and regulatory pupillage in 2014 and now has a developing junior practice in these fields.

In addition to his work in general contractual and commercial litigation in the High Court and county court, Gavin has a particular interest in property law, trusts and related matters, such as mortgage work, local government rating, probate disputes and associated professional negligence claims. These form a significant part of his practice. As pupil to John Brennan, he was heavily involved in helping the appellant bank prepare for its case before the Supreme Court in AIB Group v Redler [2014] UKSC 58 (concerning the liability of a solicitor in breach of trust). Reflecting that background, Gavin has since taught Equity and Trusts to undergraduates at Nottingham University.

Gavin was recently junior counsel to Avtar Khangure Q.C. in their successful appearance in the Court of Appeal case of Takhar v Gracefield Developments Ltd [2017] EWCA Civ. 147, concerning the correct test for the setting-aside of judgments on grounds of fraud.
